New Haven school students Matilda Pethrick and Maya Geradi will appear on Channel 8, to tell about their research work.
Matilda Pethrick, a seventh grader from Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School, placed 1st in the middle school in the EnergizeCT Alternative/Renewable Energy Awards category. Matilda’s project, “Biomass to Biogas”, studied converting cow manure to biogas using a biomass digester and biogas capture she built with a plastic bottle and a balloon- A simple but effective digester and biomass measurement design.
Maya Geradi, a 12th grader from Wilbur Cross High School will talk about her research to develop a compound with improved effectiveness for a radiotracer used in diagnostics of Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy and other neurodegenerative diseases.
Maya will be representing Connecticut at the 2018 Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF). This is the third year she won a top award at CSEF, qualifying Maya to go to compete at Intel ISEF. Her 2018 project title is “Synthesis and Separation Of a Chiral Compound In Preparation Of a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Radiotracer”. A three time ISEF competitor is rare achievement. Congrats to Maya!
