MEDIA ALERT: 2018 Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair, March 12-17
Connecticut’s 7-12th Grade Science and Engineering Competition Celebrating its 70th Year!

HAMDEN, Conn., Mar. 11, 2018 – This week, despite the impending snowstorm on Tuesday, 647 young scientists from 120 schools, both middle and high schools, across Connecticut and Fishers Island, New York will compete in the 70th Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair (CSEF). Preliminary judging will now take place on Monday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 14. About 150 students will be selected as finalists and will present their findings and research to nearly 300 volunteer judges from academia, government, industry, and professional societies on Thursday, March 15.
Students will compete for more than $200,000 in prizes, including trips to represent Connecticut at national and international competitions, including the prestigious Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, GENIUS Olympiad, and Broadcom MASTERS. Past fair winners have been recognized by organizations including the MacArthur Foundation, CT Women of Innovation, the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, the Petit Family Foundation, and the Google Science Fair.
The 2018 CSEF is generously hosted by Quinnipiac University at its Mount Carmel Campus in Hamden. The fair is open for public viewing on Thursday, March 15 from 2:00pm to 7:30pm. The media is invited to see Connecticut’s young innovators in action during the following times at the Burt Kahn Court/Recreation Center, 275 Mount Carmel Avenue, Hamden, Conn.:
- Thursday, March 15 from 9:00am – 1:15pm: Finalist Judging; and
- Saturday, March 17 from 9:00-10:00am (Middle School Awards), 10:30-11:45am (Special Awards), and 12:00-1:30pm (High School Awards).

About the Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair: The Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair is a yearly, statewide science and engineering fair open to all students in grades 7-12 residing, or enrolled, in Connecticut and Fishers Island schools. The primary objective of the fair is to attract young people to careers in mathematics, science, and engineering while developing critical thinking and public speaking skills. Through their participation in the fair, students are encouraged to pursue independent work using proper research methods. The fair is supported by academic and industrial organizations through the state. The non-profit Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair is a volunteer organization fund that directs funds toward student awards, educational presentations, fair operations, and workshops.
